A great manual for preventative maintenance

I'd like to say first off that there is no such thing as an all-encompassing manual that covers EVERYTHING about a car. I think some people have unrealistic expectations. That said, I just got this book and can already tell it will become an indispensable part of my Benz repair collection. If this book covers your year/model I would definitely not hesitate to buy this book.

Pros:
- Great first book because basic maintenance is thouroughly covered (almost exhaustive) WITH PICTURES/ARROWS
- well-taken pics (not grainy or ambiguous)
- well organized
- differentiates between different models (V8, V6, diesel, etc.)
- amount of content is well above average

Cons:
- some areas have drawings and not pics
- no real troubleshooting advice (its more informative of what to expect when taking something apart)

excellent book for Mercedes E class 1986-95

If you have any intentions of buying a mid 80's to mid 90's E class Mercedes Benz you owe it to yourself to get a copy of this book. Well written by a Mercedes tech and shop owner of many years, covering a model that is still considered among the better designed and built Mercedes Benz cars. Just because a car is newer doesn't always mean it is better, with this E class Mercedes being a good example. If you are not the owner of this E class, buy the book, read through it and you soon will be looking for a good example of this E class and buy it! Whether one of the 300E's with the 6 cylinder engine, a 400E with the zippy V8, of if you are fortunate enough to find one of the rare 500E/E500 from 1992-94, you will enjoy any of them, and need this book to guide you along the way.

I was a little worried about this because of the reviews, but I will tell you this is definitely a good book to get if you need to work on your Mercedes. It may not have everything, it assumes you know how to jack up a car, and know when to remove a tire. It is not a step by step guide for someone with no knowledge of cars. People claiming to be mechanics leaving reviews are just straight up lying. There are going to be projects that I am sure you will not find in this book. Its always good to buy more than one book for any vehicle you care about and plan on working on.

Dale Carnegies timeless relaxed truths, stories fables and
true life accounts make the book easy to read as well as
comfortable to absorb in to every day living.

I recieved this book "How to Win Friends and Influence People was given to me as a gift over 20 years ago when I was a young man starting out in the business world.

This book had such a tremendous effect upon me that I in turn have purchased and given it as gifts to others that I care about many times.

Next to the Bible, this book has had the greatest impact and effect on my life. In addition the 100's of people that I have been able to pass on it's basic, common sense values.

I recommended this as a book to provide for anyone who seems to have the desire to be the best they can be.

This book is outstanding in it's approach, teaching all who read it how in this every day world, it behooves them to follow the Golden Rule as set out by Jesus Christ 2000 years ago "Do unto others, as you would like them to do to you".

Important Revelation and Practical to a Fault

Dr. Douglas Weiss's book Clean, subtitled "A Proven Plan for Men Committed to Sexual Integrity" is a highly practical manual for Christian men who desire to break free or help others break free from sexual addiction of all forms. There's plenty of important information here for disciples, pastors, church leaders, wives, families, and brothers in Christ who seek to root out and destroy sexual addiction in their own lives and the lives of others. Clean is well-written, uncompromising, but unusually encouraging and hopeful as it presents practical steps for men to find freedom in their lives.

Dr. Weiss's approach remains biblical but is often informed by psychology. The strength of the book lies in the author's ability to approach the issue of sexual addiction as both a Christian counselor and as an evangelistic minister. The powerful commitment to clean living, accountability, and public confession partnered with the practical component will be compelling for many searching for answers, and while the book never compromises on issues such as pornography, inappropriate relationships, and masturbation, it remains overwhelmingly positive and encouraging, repeatedly emphasizing the hope of freedom, which is vital for this kind of book.

The emphasis on psychology and practical methodology presents both informative and unique nuggets of truth as well as some potentially harmful ideas. Dr. Weiss is clearly an advocate of the most basic behavioral modification. Much like Pavlov's dog, he believes that addicts can and should condition their physical brains and bodies by punishing themselves when they transgress in the area of lust. Some may indeed be helped by these techniques, but an emphasis on this kind of behavior modification can be harmful and distracts from the life-giving power of the Spirit within. I can't imagine Jesus or the disciples teaching others to snap themselves with a rubber band or beat themselves when they mentally transgressed.

In spite of my strong reservations regarding Dr. Weiss's methodology of behavioral conditioning and never-ending accountability, there is life-giving power in this book and the core is here to set every man free and lead a revival of purity within the church. As with most books on sanctification I've read, I wish more was said about identity in Christ, the practical power of the Holy Spirit, and the ability to live above temptation by taking every thought captive. My dissatisfaction does not mean that this isn't a good book that will help many. I am glad that I read it, and some of Dr. Weiss's revelations were new and important to me. While I would recommend Winning the Battle Within by Neil Anderson and At the Altar of Sexual Idolatry by Steve Gallagher before Clean, it is an important book on a much needed topic.

Clean or Unclean. When it comes to biblical Christian standards for sexual morality you can only be on one side of the fence. There is no gray area. No toeing the line. When it comes to sexual integrity "bleachy white" or "covered in mud" are your only options.

Clean: A Proven Plan for Men committed to Sexual Integrity by Douglas Weiss, PhD. is a guide for those men and women who want to walk freely, clearly, and cleanly in the redemption provided by Christ through honesty, accountability, and utter dependence on the blood of the Savior of the world. Weiss' hope is that every follower of Jesus could be called "Clean" and help others find freedom from sexual addiction.

While Clean is a decent read for those wanting to either begin walking a pure sexual life or a refresher course on the subject it does not say anything new, or especially revelatory regarding the subject. Weiss provides a substantial groundwork for the current situation in the church on sexual addiction showing how deep the problem has rooted itself in the men and women who attend and serve the church. The problem is not only in the lives of the congregation but also the leadership. It is fair enough to say that there is a giant elephant in the room, and we all know it's there. The question herein proposed is, "What will we do about it?"

I'm a sex addict. I have been since I was 13 years old and was exposed to a Playboy. Carmen Electra was the pinup model. They say in Alcoholics Anonymous that once you're an addict you're always an addict. I can vouch to it's truth. The number of times my sin of pornography addiction has caused friends and family to weep exceeds fingers on my hands. My addiction would come and go like the ebb and flow of the tides. Here today gone tomorrow. I wasn't caught every time, but I was always, eventually, caught. It wasn't until I applied many of the same techniques Weiss encourages that freedom began to come.

Here are a few bits of advice Weiss has for those wanting to be clean...

Wear a rubberband on your wrist. When temptation comes snap it.
Call your Pastor and Wife to ask permission to sin before engaging in sexual sin. (That ought to stop you dead in your tracks!)
Have an accountability partner, who has your complete trust, to stay honest and truthful with about your victories and losses.
Get internet safety software that will protect you from temptation on the internet.
The truth about sexual sin is this, you either believe that you can sexually or not. If so then you, and you alone, are responsible for the choice to be clean. I will leave you with one of my former pastor's great maxims regarding choice, he said, "Blamers and complainers are not overcomers."

It's time to pick up our weapons!

The essential premise of Dr. Weiss's Clean is that whether or not we would like to admit it, the church is in the middle of a war for purity and at present we are losing.

For too long, the church has adopted a "don't ask, don't tell" policy in regards to the issue sexual purity either because it is an uncomfortable issue or because they don't want to deal with the fallout. Because we have failed to confront the issue head on, we no longer have a culture of accountability and folks are falling prey to sexual addiction in rapid numbers.

There were definitely things about the book Clean that were uncomfortable to read, either because I didn't want them to be true, or because I knew they were true because of my own experiences. The book is an effective wake-up call that the church can't continue to operate business as usual any longer. I guarantee this book will shake you and challenge you.

One of the things that I greatly enjoyed about the book is that Weiss consistently remains serious about the topic and doesn't budge an inch in his intensity for purity, but he doesn't beat down and shame those who are struggling. There is a lot of compassion for those who are in the midst of sexual addiction, because he has been down that road himself and has dedicated his life to helping men fight through it.

Whether you are a young man or a grandfather, a pastor or a layman, you need to read this book--because even if you don't struggle with sexual purity, many of your brothers do and they need your help to break through and find freedom. If you are looking for a great men's ministry resource, Weiss has also put together a Clean DVD set and accompanying journal.
