It gives joy to be able to write a review on this book and the wondrous author Frank M. Wanderer. Noted that this author is not just that but also a Master Teacher, Ph.D, Professor of Psychology, Researcher of Consciousness reaching out beyond his own language and country to help those of this world willing to listen. His teachings are direct and simple, not beliefs but paths of discovery for your own experiences back to your inherent self. He has taken the the horizontal teaching of Psychology (earth bound) and expanded his experiences to include the vertical teachings (spiritual) of consciousness, perfectly intertwined for easy understanding by the reader. This book contains information on how our minds operate/function and this will surprise you inducing aha moments, leaving one craving for more of this knowledge. The Chant of the Heart contains quizzes to help one see where you are on your path and what areas one may wish to further explore. It has been noted that many of the books that should be read at this time, are the ones missed. Will be reading all of his books and want to thank Frank Wanderer for sharing these precious gifts of wisdom.

A "must-read" for BOTH men and women.

As a woman reading this, I even learned more about the small nuances of how I communicate with men that I hadn't considered and were pretty accurate. It also reminded me of my own worth, too; and that deep within myself I don't wish to settle for anything less than what I truly want to see in a man. I'd love to evangelize this book: It's like a cure for that nasty co- and counter-dependency. It'd be really great to see more men out there who are truly themselves and comfortable doing it, centered, strong, and sure of themselves. (Sure and centered; not arrogant, narcissistic, or controlling). It'd make everyone better. I've missed expressing my feminine side with a man that I knew/felt it was totally safe to do so with. I'm positive that many other ladies feel the same.

I'd also love to see a woman's version!

Must Read

I needed some advice quick because I came upon meeting an amazing woman. Was looking for advice on YouTube and came across to this author's videos which I found very informative and makes total sense. The book gives more details so I highly recommend it.

Wow, where do I start? It seems like I lived through 3 lifetimes and still no success with women. I guess now is as good a time to try to change given it's the new year. I have read countless of these books before and I think this one makes the most sense. It's amazing how much BS is on this topic and there is actually a book out there that teaches you to become friends with a girl first and then tell her that you like her. Ridiculous. DO NOT DO THIS. I HAVE DONE THIS MANY, MANY, MANY TIMES AND FAILED MANY, MANY, MANY TIMES.

I haven't really tested this book's techniques since I just finished the book but I'm pretty sure they will work. Why? Basically, everything this book is telling me NOT to do, I've been doing them my entire life:

-Being insecure, always thinking about other guys and how I compare to them
-Being jealous even though she is not even my girlfriend yet
-Being really down on myself and falling in a deep depression for many months after a failed attempt
-Showing feminine traits and weakness
-Not being strong and decisive, letting the girl take control
-Buying her expensive dinners and gifts on the 1st date, 2nd date, 3rd date, etc, etc...
-Talking too much about myself and trying to impress her with wealth and accomplishments
-BEING TOO SERIOUS
-Not focusing on giving and only what I will get
-FEAR OF REJECTION AND FAILURE
-Hanging out with her friends and in so becoming part of the 'group'
-Being a doormat and letting her have her way because I was so 'in love' with her
-Thinking a great date activity is going to the movies
-Not going for the kiss, which again, brings us back to FEAR OF REJECTION AND FAILURE

You know, I'm pretty sure I'm missing tons more, but that was my life. Basically, the author tells you to NOT do these things and more.

The only negatives I have for this book is that the writing doesn't necessarily flow and there are too many stories. I'm a non-fiction reader and would just like facts presented to me quickly. Of course, fiction fans may appreciate this style. So I took off a star in the review because of these minor grievances but otherwise an important book with important information that everybody should know and practice.

The thing that stuck with me is to compare yourself with James Bond. For example, would James Bond care if some other guy is hitting on the girl you like? Heck no, because he's f-ing James Bond. Would James Bond worry if the girl you like is dating another guy? Again, he would be laughing at the other guy. This is the mentality you should have with women which for years I lack. Actually, just a week before I read this book, I was thinking about this guy who I saw hitting on the girl that I like. I mean I didn't even ask this girl out and I'm not even focusing on her but on the guy because I was afraid he would be successful. Weak.

Another useful analogy would be to picture women as cats. Cats need a lot of coaxing and time to get used to you so telling a woman you are in love with her or you want to marry her, right off the bat won't help you.

Basically, the guy needs to be strong, confident, and in control. He needs to be focused on the goal, while at the same time give the woman a fun, comfortable, and enjoyable time. No doubt, easier said than done and will take practice for change to happen.

Another reality check that the book mentions is to just go for women interested in you. Why waste your time with someone who has no interest in you? While this is true, that can only mean if the hot girl you are pursuing is a 9 and you're a 3, chances are bad. This is not always true, though. I myself am probably a 3 or 4 at most but I usually go for women at least a 5, but usually get around that range. There were probably 2 or 3 times I went out with a 8 or 9 so stuff happens. I think that I might have married one of these girls had I have the knowledge possessed in this book at the time.

Another point to learn from only focusing on women interested in you is to stop fixating on just one woman whom you think is your soul mate when she could care less about you. This was a big problem I had in the past and from reading blogs on the internet, a common problem with a lot of guys. I guess somehow I think if I stay the course, she may change her mind miraculously. Again, the cat analogy is important. The woman needs space and time and maybe she will come to you but she may not. If you constantly focus on her and instant messaging her everyday and pursuing her, the cat will not come near you. I actually done this to 2 girls. One had a boyfriend already so I wasn't really putting too much hope on her and she was also engaged. We meet up for dinner like once every 2 months and that's about it. An email once or twice a month. And then suddenly, before I know it, they broke up and I was dating her. It's incredible the crazy stuff that happens when you just forget about her and go with the flow. Now the other girl, I did the total opposite. I was obsessed with her. I instant message her everyday. I told her I was crazy about her and we're not even dating. I told her I'm so jealous of the guy she's dating. Sure enough, nothing happened because not only were we in the friends zone for so long, but I displayed so much weakness that looking back now, there is no wonder she avoided me at all cost. Again it all goes back to James Bond. Would he focus only on one woman? Silly question. Basically, not only does James Bond go out with many women but he focuses on his mission. We can all be better dudes if we find a purpose or goal in life and just focus on that. Everything else will follow. I also recommend the movie "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty" which is about this subject as well. It's funny how everything just comes together all of a sudden and hits you. I just feel the movie, this book, and everything happening is happening all at once for a reason.

So fast-forward 5 years to last year. I am finally over that girl I was obsessing. Pathetic, I know. We never even dated. Before my breakdown, I was pretty active and doing stuff everyday like mountain biking, skiing, and snowboarding. But my deep depression from that girl practically put me in a comatose state. I just slept all day. I didn't do anything. I was a walking zombie. Oh, probably the worst thing that I did was spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on expensive stuff because I was so depressed. I finally decided to get out of the rut last year because I was just tired of moping. A whole f-ing world out there and plenty of living to do. Did a lot of travelling, found a new job, basically got my s together.

Which brings me to back to how I got here in the first place, I met this girl. She is not your typical woman and a 11/10. A 11. Perfection. I seriously doubt my chances but at the same time confident and hopeful now that I have knowledge from this book. Fear is such a bitch. It's funny how I'm fearless and so top of my game at the workplace but so weak when it comes to women. I guess when the little lab hamster is shocked each time for biting the cage, he eventually becomes fearful of the cage. Anyway, never again will I live in fear. Try, learn, move on, repeat. Game face. James Bond. Wish me luck.

It is the best resource for dating

Priceless resource. This has so much content that can change your life. It is the best resource for dating, pick up, relationships, building confidence, understanding women, understanding masculinity and femininity. I am on my 4th read and still going strong with it. Get the audio version when you get the Kindle. You can listen to it anywhere and it can change your life.
Corey Wayne speaks in a way to keep things simple and keep you engaged and will help you learn essentials you need in your relationships.
I have bought other resources in the same genre but this one is the easiest to understand and is simple enough to immediately apply in your life.
I am still surprised how good this book is. So many things to learn from this. It is one of my fave's relating to confidence and relationships (including dating).
Buy it, read it (10-15 times like he tells you to), and live it, and you will see changes in your life. The guy is spot on and will help you to make changes you need to see success in your relationships.
I read a lot and I learned so much from this. If you want to understand women better, BUY IT! If you want to understand the dynamics of masculinity vs. femininity, BUY IT! I really can't endorse this enough. He has changed the game for me and his Youtube videos and his website are invaluable resources. This book is so worth the small amount it costs. It really is a no brainer.
This is the best self help book I have read for many years. It is amazing.
This is a strong endorsement and I am in no way connected to Corey Wayne and certainly am getting nothing out of posting this but I feel strongly about it and have seen how applying the principles in the book can have in my life and how it helps so much to understand women better and understand myself better.
He will teach you how to understand women better (like a million percent better) and how to be a MAN. The techniques will make a huge difference in your social and even work life. This book can really change your life. I can't believe how easy it is to understand his teachings and techniques. I have been clueless in many ways with women in the past and this book has helped me to have more confidence and to not sabotage my relationships.
This book really can help you in your personal and work life. It is so worth the pittance he is asking for it.
Men need to know this stuff because we really are clueless with this. Buy this book and read it over and over and it will save you in countless ways (socially and financially). And I like how he will sell this book for so cheap and then doesn't try to sell you a whole library of other products. This book is the only resource he sells. So refreshing. I hate being bombarded by the sales pitches for a million other books or videos that just about every other person in this genre does. He does do one on one coaching you can hire him for but no gives more content than this guy does on his website for absolutely FREE. He is not going to try to sell you on buying some new resource he has available. Buy his book and watch his free videos and that is all you need. He is awesome and no one provides more value for what he offers.

About the Author
Uma Narula is Ph.D. in Communication from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst USA. At present she is Director/Communication Consultant (Research & Training) with Communication Networks (CNET), New Delhi, India. She regularly conducts social and development research on national and international issues and provides communication training to corporate and academic groups. She has eleven published books to her credit. She has co-authored three books: Development as Communication (1986); Culture, Politics and Research Programs (1990); New Communication Technologies in Developing Countries (1990). The other eight books exclusively authored by her include: Mass Communication: Theory and Practice (1994); Development Communication: Theory and Practice (1994, revised 1999); Mass Communication Technologies: New Perspectives (2001); Communication Perspectives: Cultural Diffusion, Dynamic and Challenges (2001); Yearnings (fiction�-�2003); Indian Women Across Generations (2005) and Business Communication Practices: Modern Trends (2006). She has published a number of research papers and articles in reputed journals. Another Splendid Read

I must say that Donna Grant had improved her writing skill and technique. She plunged the series with many mysteries and given many clues for the readers to create their own assumptions. She had my head whirling in unraveling the mysteries. Hopefully, my long list of possibilities were close enough to the truth.

As I had mentioned in the past, the Dark Kings series was a spinoff of Dark Warriors. Tristan a.k.a. Duncan Kerr was Ian's twin brother. He died immediately in Dark Warriors series. He didn't get his own story. So, I was so glad that Ms. Grant did this splendid twist. Now, he was able to reconcile with his brother and found the love of his life. I greatly appreciate the appearance of the Dark Warriors in this book.

Unfortunately, the author failed to explain why Tristan was able to recollect his repressed memories as Duncan whenever he touched Sammi who had no Druid blood. Also, in the end, I had to assume that Rhi was rescued by Con even though it was not mentioned. Why else Con joined the rescue team if not for Rhi? He didn't come to rescue Denae when she was also captured by the Dark One. The readers would understand what I was trying to relay.

I love all her books. I especially love how she has incorporated the warriors in the dark Kings books. It's is always nice to revisits characters from previous books. The stories are always fresh the men always hunky. Who wouldn't dream of having a gorgeous man whisk you away from all your troubles. For anyone into paranormal , shifters or fantasy her books are a must read. I'm always anticipating the next book. Keep them coming I'm a big fan.

We get another look at some of the couples we have grown to love as they work together to save a woman who may or may not be the mate to one of their own. While the Dark King’s rule Scotland and The Dark Fae rule Ireland we will see a centuries old d�tente begin to crumble as Ulrik seeks the retribution and revenge against the Dark Kings he once called friends. Not as good as the first edition

The first edition of Martin and Barkley(1961)was a tremendously useful volume and this newer edition is simply a reprint. The main problem with it (and reason for only four stars) is the photo quality is very poor compared to the original. I've made photocopies of the original that look better than those in the current edition. I was dissapointed by that, however, the book stands alone as there are really no other references like it. If you can obtain the earlier edition at a reasonable price I'd recomend that you get it, but if you can't this adequate.

About the Author

Austin Shaw is a full-time Professor of motion media design at the Savannah College of Art and Design. He has also taught at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. BUYER BEWARE

EDIT: It seems a bit dubious that seven 5-star reviews have miraculously popped up here in the last 12 hrs, all with glowing reviews for the book, and all being 100% marked as "helpful", despite giving no insight or critical look at the book in question. While this review, the only one that explores the content of the book, has been suddenly marked "unhelpful" 12 times in the last day...

Look, I'm terribly sorry to be giving this book such a low review, I really am, but it is an absolute train wreck.

Sentences and even entire paragraphs are re-hashed, and repeated throughout the book over and over; scattered in seemingly random locations. Paragraphs start on one topic, and abruptly change to another. Made-up industry terminology is presented. Concepts are touted to be important without having ever defined them. Inaccurate information is given.

At no point did I ever feel as if I was learning a fundamental, let alone a practical technique. The author never actually “teaches” you anything, he simply brings up topics like “tension”, “composition”, “color”, “design”, etc. and then tells you they are important, literally throughout the entire volume.

At one point we are told: “The purpose of this book is to teach you about these outcomes and how to make them. They are called STYLE FRAMES and DESIGN BOARDS.” Wait, so this book is about style frames and design boards? Why wasn’t it titled “Style Frames & Design Boards”?!

“The first twenty-five seconds of a thirty second commercial takes the viewer on a journey that inspires emotions and ideas. The final five seconds invariably ends with a logo animation that leaves the viewer with no uncertainty about who has delivered the message.”

From Chapter 9 - Image Making
“Many commercial pieces work in this way, starting in a place of mystery that then takes the viewer on a journey. The commercial almost always concludes in a place of design certainty with a logo resolve.”

The section “A Brief History of Style Frames” in chapter 1 is two paragraphs of one person’s recollection on using photos as style frames, and then 4 paragraphs on technology's (computers, scanners) impact on production.

WHAT?! How is this a history of Style frames?

At one point we are presented with an upside down triangle infographic (included in pics). One side represents when you receive a creative brief, the other, when you finish the project. Somewhere near the middle is a “tipping point” where the project moves from infinite possibilities to certainty.

However, the point of a creative brief is to provide certitude to a project, so how can the tipping point come in the middle?

“The graphic visualizes an idea of how to approach creative projects. It was developed to help keep the creative process enjoyable, while still delivering the best possible outcome. the Process-To-Outcome Spectrum can help you generate ideas, structure and manage time, and feel less stress over the course of a project.”

HOW CAN IT DO ANY OF THOSE?!?!?! It is literally just an upside down triangle with a few sentences next to it!

Another section of the book elaborates on the use of the word “outcome”:
“Within the context of this framework, outcome is defined as the tangible result of a project.”

So by “outcome” you mean “outcome?” Thanks for the clarification.

“Compositions can change with subtle grace or with shocking abruptness. This description is the essence of how motion transitions over time. As motion slows down, it begins to become more graphic or static. The tipping point between motion and graphic is the exact point where change can be perceived through a viewport. This combination of motion graphic media mirrors the overlap of studio business models that work in the motion design industry.”

WHAT?

“This book is for students and aspiring professionals who want to work in design driven production. Motion design offers tremendous opportunities to those interested in creative careers. Until the early 2000s, screens to display motion design primarily consisted of SD [Standard Definition] Televisions, movie theater screens, and computer monitors. Then HD [High Definition] resolution became prevalent, and motion designers could create content for SD and HD aspect ratios.”

Non-sequitur much? Wow!

The book is peppered throughout with interviews of highly talented individuals in the industry, entitled “Professional Perspectives”, or as I like to think of them “Missed Opportunities”.

These sections could have been of tremendous benefit had insightful questions been asked, but instead we are given ““What do you think you would do if you weren't’ a designer?” and “What was your favorite project?”.

Of what use is this? Wouldn’t it be more beneficial to the topic of design to inquire about how they, I don't know, go about selecting a color palette? What resources they found important over their careers? Or if we ask them about a favorite project, what about following it up with questions about the production of that project? SOMETHING of practical value.

Chapter 11, "Concept Development Exercises” is simply a rehash of concepts already presented earlier (free writing, word list etc.)

Chapter 12, "Design Essentials" You can create or find assets. Have a sketchbook. Buy a computer. Backup your data. That is seriously the content.

Chapter 13, "The Art of Compositing" sees the creation of the terms "Concrete compositing", and "Abstract compositing". Why make up terminology for this?

Chapter 14, “3D Software for Design” feels as if it was written with very little actual 3D experience:

“A common default projection in 3D software is UVW mapping. This option attempts to wrap your material around your geometry like a piece of clothing on a mannequin.”

This is just plain incorrect. UVW mapping means it’s using the UVW coordinates of the object, which it may have already if it is a default object, or you will need to create if it is a model you have made.

Chapter 15, "Matte Painting"
Wait, what? Matte painting now?! The whole chapter is a non-sequitur for a book on motion!

At this point, I decided to skim the rest of the book to see if it continued to be as meandering and pointless, and I'm sorry to report that it is. What a disappointment. I was beyond exited that we finally had a book on the topic of design SPECIFIC to motion artists, but alas, we still do not. Do not waste your money on this.

Must-have for motion graphic artists

This was one of my professors at SCAD who I found to be very smart and influenced me a lot. This book is the result of a class (by the same title) he taught us, gathering our feedback as he wrote this book. I have referred back to this book on several occasions for ideas and even some technical advice. His interviews with professionals in the industry really help provide the reader exceptional material. Shaw did a great job organizing a lot of (sometimes overwhelming) information and portraying it in a colorful and creative way.

Essential reading for working in Motion Design!

As a 16 year veteran of the Motion Design field, I can't say enough good things about this book, but let me try:

While Motion Design is a relatively new pursuit in comparison to other aspects of media production, it's not without it's standards. Our field is a unique blend of creative practices, which Shaw describes in detail. So the terminology and approach found at work in ad agencies and post-production studios vary quite a bit – it's similar, but different! And that's a good thing, because the creative process for producing Motion Design related content wouldn't work any other way.

What this book does so brilliantly is establish the terms we all use on a daily basis in an approachable and welcoming way for newcomers in the field. It's also a fantastic refresher if you've been working in the field; be it as a freelancer or staffer, and at studios large or small.

It's also worth noting that I first became aware of Shaw when working with his students at several studios over the last few years. As interns, they had a tremendous understanding of the Motion Design production process and were able to contribute to commercial work almost immediately. It was only after inquiring about their surprisingly thorough knowledge of our industry did I trace back the common connection: Austin Shaw! So I can't think of a better author to organize, outline and document the field as a whole.

Andy Hargreaves is the Thomas More Brennan Chair in the Lynch School of Education at Boston College. Michael Fullan is Professor Emeritus of the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto.

Leading the way

Professional Capital is just what teaching needs at this time--a solid look at practices and ideas that really will increase student learning. With near unanimous agreement in the failure of No Child Left Behind, the time is ripe for ideas that will truly improve education. Unfortunately, much of what passes for education reform doesn't meet the standard set by Hargreaves and Fullan in this excellent book. I highly recommend this book as a template for change in our schools.

A Must Read for politicians, school leaders and teachers

"Professional Capital" is A Must Read book on school reforms, change of teaching and learning cultures and classroom implementation of educational policies as wished by politicians, school leaders, teachers, students and parents. It is surprisingly sharp in its critique of politicians' search for quick measurable results, and it is equally solidly founded in presenting evidence and suggestions for a sustainable development of school cultures that will guarantee continuos improvement of institutionalised learning - the idea is the professional capital of collaborative teaching and learning.

Required Reading for Anyone Who Thinks They Are In The Business of Improving Education

A breathe of fresh air, for sure. Hargreaves and Fullan offer a clear, well researched, and solution-focused approach to growing schools. Responding to the current mania of business model pseudo-solutions to education's "ills," they place change firmly back in the hands of educators in an uplifting, though not light on challenging, way. A must read. Then give your copy away for someone else to read pronto.
